My New Soft Shackle - Gator Jaw

A Must-Have in Your Recovery Gear Bag

Off-road enthusiasts know being prepared for any situation is crucial when hitting the trails. During a Women's Wheeling Day event organized by NORA 4x4 (NorthEast OffRoad Adventures), participants had the opportunity to learn valuable recovery techniques from Jon, an I4WDTA certified trainer. This hands-on class focused on hi-lift jacks and winching, providing essential knowledge for safe and effective off-road recovery.

Soft Shackles: A Game-Changer

One standout piece of equipment introduced during the class was the soft shackle. It was my first introduction to this recovery tool, and I immediately saw its advantages.

After learning about soft shackles, I decided to buy the GatorJaw 7/16" Synthetic Shackle. This decision was based on the numerous advantages demonstrated during the class. Since then, it's become a staple in my recovery gear bag. I use it all the time—it’s quicker, lighter, and much easier to handle than traditional D-rings.

I recall one instance when a Jeep Cherokee got stuck in the mud during an off-road outing. The driver was unfamiliar with soft shackles, so I offered mine and showed them how to use it. Once they used the GatorJaw soft shackle to pull the Cherokee out of the mud, they were seriously impressed by how effective and simple it was.

Why Choose a Soft Shackle?

The GatorJaw soft shackle has a number of key benefits that make it stand out compared to traditional recovery gear. Here’s why I love using it:

  • Impressive Strength:

    • Breaking strength of 32,000 lbs—far surpassing traditional steel shackles.

    • Significantly lighter than steel options, making it easier to handle.

  • Versatility and Convenience:

    • Flexible for Various Recovery Scenarios: Can be used in multiple recovery situations.

    • Floats in Water: Perfect for water crossings.

    • Quick Attachment: No need to unscrew D-rings, which saves time during recovery.

  • Long-Term Performance:

    • Durable and reliable after numerous uses. It's held up time and time again, making it a trusted part of my recovery gear.
