7 Hidden Jeep Wrangler Features Most Owners Don’t Know About

Hidden Jeep Wrangler Features Every Owner Should Check Out

Most Jeep Wrangler owners discover hidden features months or even years after buying their Jeep.

From Jeep Easter eggs and secret storage compartments to removable floor drain plugs and trail-friendly design tricks, Wranglers are packed with clever hidden details many owners completely miss.

After years of owning and wheeling my 2015 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, these are some of my favorite hidden Jeep Wrangler features every owner should know about.

What Hidden Features Do Jeep Wranglers Have?

  • Hidden center console storage
  • Jeep Easter eggs
  • Cup holder dog bowl
  • Seven-slot grille details
  • Door latch bottle opener
  • Extendable sun visors
  • Removable floor drain plugs
Some are practical, some are fun, and some are hidden so well you may have never noticed them before.

Hidden Jeep Wrangler Center Console Storage Compartment

One of the first hidden Jeep Wrangler features I discovered was the secret storage compartment underneath the center console lid in my Rubicon.

It’s the perfect place to stash small trail essentials like:

  • tire gauges
  • flashlights
  • pens
  • pocket knives
  • charging cables

I love using it to keep small items organized and easy to grab on the trail instead of digging through the entire center console.

✅ Jeep Easter Eggs Hidden Throughout the Wrangler

Jeep loves hiding Easter eggs throughout their vehicles,  small symbols and design details that celebrate Jeep history and off-road culture.

Some of my favorite Jeep Wrangler Easter eggs include:

  • Tiny Willys Jeeps climbing rocky trails on the windshield corners
  • Hidden seven-slot grille logos near hinges and trim pieces
  • Mini Jeep silhouettes stitched into seat belts
  • Trail coordinates hidden in floor mats and storage areas

Discovering these hidden Jeep Easter eggs almost feels like a scavenger hunt for Jeep owners.

One of the coolest things about Jeep culture is how Jeepers share and compare the Easter eggs they’ve found in their own Wranglers.

Jeep Cup Holder Hack: Built-In Dog Bowl for Trail Days

If you off-road with dogs, this hidden Jeep Wrangler trick is surprisingly useful.

The removable liner inside the Wrangler cup holder can double as a small water bowl for your dog during trail rides or camping trips.

It’s one of those simple Jeep design details that makes trail life a little easier.

Hidden Seven-Slot Grille Details Inside Your Jeep Wrangler

Jeep designers incorporated the iconic seven-slot grille design throughout the Wrangler interior and exterior.

Look closely near the cowl vent by the hood, and you’ll notice subtle seven-slot detailing molded into the trim.

It’s a small touch, but it reflects Jeep’s attention to heritage and branding throughout the vehicle.

Jeep Wrangler Door Latch Bottle Opener (Yes, It’s Real)

One of the most talked-about hidden Jeep Wrangler features is the door latch bottle opener.

On my 2015 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon JK, the silver door latches can actually function as bottle openers perfect for tailgating, camping, and trail rides.

It’s one of those features many Wrangler owners accidentally discover years later.

✅ Extendable Wrangler Sun Visors for Better Sun Protection

Another hidden Wrangler feature many owners miss is the extendable sun visors.

The visors slide outward to block sunlight coming through the side windows or near the rearview mirror during early morning or evening drives.

This small feature makes a huge difference on long road trips and sunny trail rides.

✅ Jeep Wrangler Floor Drain Plus for Easy Mud Clean Up

If you spend time off-road, this may become your favorite hidden Jeep Wrangler feature.

Wranglers come equipped with removable floor drain plugs designed to help clean mud, sand, water, and trail debris from the interior.

After muddy trail rides, you can remove the plugs, rinse out the interior, and let it dry naturally.

The floor drain plugs became one of my favorite Wrangler features after leaving the top down during a rain storm allowed me to drain the water out quickly.

It’s one of those practical Jeep features you don’t fully appreciate until you actually use it.

Evap Canister -- Relocate or Fortify?

Choosing the Right Off-Road Modifications for Your Jeep

When I first started off-roading with my Jeep Wrangler, deciding which modifications to prioritize was overwhelming. Through years of experience and many trail adventures, I've learned which upgrades truly matter—especially when tackling rocky terrain. Protecting your Jeep's undercarriage is essential to keeping your vehicle trail-ready and damage-free.

Last Updated: July 2025

Why Undercarriage Protection Matters for Your Jeep

ocky trails put your Jeep's underside at risk. Essential components like the engine, transmission, and differentials are vulnerable without adequate protection. Investing in robust undercarriage armor can prevent costly repairs.

Skid Plates: Essential Protection for Jeep Wranglers

Skid plates are your Jeep’s first line of defense, safeguarding critical com

ponents from rocks and debris. Early in my off-road journey, I installed:

  • Engine & Transmission Skid Plate

  • Heavy-Duty Differential Covers

  • Rear Lower Control Arm Skids

Protecting the Evap Canister: Necessary or Not?

The evap canister (Evaporative Emission Control canister) is an essential part of your Jeep’s emissions system, but opinions vary on protecting it. I received advice on two popular options:

  • Upgrading Factory Evap Canister Skid Plate: Replace the factory skid with a tougher aftermarket version.

  • Relocating the Evap Canister: Move it above the rear axle to prevent contact with trail obstacles.

My trusted mechanic at Adams Jeep in Maryland recommended relocation, while other Jeepers suggested simply upgrading the skid plate.

However, after careful consideration—and advice from experienced off-roaders—I chose to leave mine stock.

My Personal Experience:
A Decade Without Evap Canister Issues

After nearly ten years of wheeling—including challenging trails like the Rubicon Trail, Arizona’s rocky trails, and Pennsylvania’s Rausch Creek—I haven't experienced any issues with my evap canister in its original factory location.

My advice? Consider your specific wheeling style before making any modifications. If you're frequently tackling extreme rock crawling trails, relocation or enhanced protection might be beneficial. For moderate to advanced trails, the factory setup often suffices.

What Exactly is an Evap Canister?

The Evaporative Emission Control (EVAP) canister captures and stores fuel vapors from your fuel system, preventing harmful emissions. It’s strategically placed near your fuel tank and gradually purges vapors to the engine, reducing environmental impact and ensuring compliance with emissions regulations.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What Jeep modifications should I prioritize first?

Prioritize skid plates, including engine, transmission, and differential protection, followed by upgraded tires and recovery gear.

Do I really need to relocate my evap canister?

It depends on your off-road style. Extreme rock crawling may warrant relocation, but most moderate trail driving rarely affects a factory-placed evap canister.

What is the purpose of skid plates?

Skid plates protect vital undercarriage components, preventing costly damage when off-roading, especially on rocky terrain.

Can I install skid plates myself?

Yes, skid plates can typically be installed by anyone with basic mechanical skills and common hand tools, though professional installation is also available if preferred.

What happens if my evap canister gets damaged?

Damage can lead to issues like reduced fuel economy, emissions test failure, and a check engine light. It’s advisable to inspect it regularly.

What’s the benefit of heavy-duty differential covers?

Heavy-duty differential covers provide stronger protection against impacts from rocks and trail debris, reducing the risk of fluid leaks or damage.

By understanding the terrain you frequent and carefully selecting modifications, you’ll ensure your Jeep remains durable and reliable through every adventure.
