Uwharrie Off Road Trail Adventure

Expect the Unexpected!

My Jeep climbing up a muddy trail

Expect the unexpected is something every off-roader should be prepared for when they hit the trails. It's one thing I learned when I wheeled in Uwharrie during the Carolina Trails Off Road Spring Invasion IN 2019.

My Jeep on Dickey Bell Trail

The last time wheeled at Uwharrie, I wheeled the three "D" trails; Dickey Bell, Dutch John and Daniel. Those three trails are the most difficult trails at Uwharrie National Forest. This time I wheeled the other trails which are easy to moderate.

The rains in the area days before the event created very slick, slippery red clay covered trails. Rain can make an easy trail difficult. The first time I was on the trails they were dry and dusty which allowed for good traction. Not this time and it became a huge learning experience for me.

My Jeep trying to get traction on a muddy trail

I was very frustrated on parts of the trails because my Jeep was getting no traction. I had to be towed on one trail where my driver's side tire kept slipping into a two foot rut. Several other off-roaders made it thru, but they had their throttle timing down to a tee. Something I needed to work on.

It took a few slick trails to get used to hitting that skinny pedal harder than I am used too. I am usually crawling up rocks not muddy slick trails. By the end of the day I was doing pretty good.

My Journey with the Quadratec Q-Performance Stealth Winch

A Reliable Companion

Showing off my new Winch.

Finally after five years of patiently waiting, I won a winch. I was hesitant to spend the money on a winch when the chances of me using it were slim to none. Little did I know, this winch would be used dozens of times over the years. My hope was to win one at a raffle at one of the many wheeling events I attend.

My new winch installed on my bumper.

My patience paid off. During the raffle at the Women's Wheeling Trail Guide Class with Off Road Consulting my number was called. This winch is solid!

My Experience with This Trusty Winch

Updated 2024: Over the years, I've found myself relying on my winch countless times. Whether helping fellow Jeep enthusiasts out of tricky spots or tackling challenging terrains, this winch has proven its worth repeatedly.

I've used it on the renowned Rubicon Trail, pulled Jeeps out of ditches, and rescued vehicles from snowy mountain trails. It even came in handy to free a truck with a snow plow and to flip over a lake pontoon float at my sister's place.

In the past four years, this winch has been a steadfast companion, used dozens of times and still going strong. Its durability and reliability have made it an indispensable part of my off-roading adventures.

Never having done a winch install I went to the guys at Adrenaline Off Road to show me the way.
