Finding My Peace Through Faith

Rediscovering Jesus

The day I headed out West.

The past decade has been a rollercoaster ride filled with so much turmoil. I did a lot of soul searching and took several leaps of faith. I lost a lot but gained so much more. There were times of great joy and some of the lowest moments in my life.

During this bumpy ride, I took steps to start living my best life. I decluttered my stuff, relationships and time. I found my passion and started new hobbies. It wasn't until recently I realized, I was missing the most important step to a better life.

Building a Relationship with God

Tammy filled with peace.

Rediscovering Jesus and building a relationship with God lead me to an inner peace. I have learned the power of forgiveness and letting go. The power of forgiving myself for my choices and the power to forgive those who betrayed me. I don't worry about the stories told about me and what others think of me because in the end only God matters.

In a world filled with chaos, uncertainty, and constant change, finding peace seems like an elusive dream. Many of us search for tranquility and a sense of purpose in various ways, but often, the answer lies closer than we think. Rediscovering Jesus and fostering a relationship with God can bring profound peace and transform your life in remarkable ways.

Rediscovering Jesus

God's beautiful flowers.

For those of us who grew up in a Christian environment or have been exposed to the teachings of Jesus, it's not uncommon to drift away or lose sight of our faith amidst the hustle and bustle of daily life. However, taking steps to reconnect with Jesus can be a life-changing decision. Here's what I did.

Reflect on Your Journey

Spend time reflecting on your spiritual journey. Consider the moments when you felt closest to Jesus and the factors that contributed to that connection. Reflect on what caused the distance in your relationship with Him. This self-awareness is the first step towards rekindling your faith.

Engage with Scripture

The Bible is a powerful tool for understanding the teachings of Jesus and God's plan for us. Make it a habit to read the Bible regularly. Start with the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) to revisit the life and teachings of Jesus. Allow His words to guide and inspire you.

Prayer and Meditation

Prayer is a direct line of communication with God. Set aside time each day to pray and meditate. Share your thoughts, concerns, and gratitude with Him. Through prayer, you can develop a deeper, more personal relationship with God and feel His presence in your life.

Building a Relationship with God

A strong relationship with God is the cornerstone of a peaceful and fulfilling life. Here’s how nurturing this relationship can positively impact your life:

Inner Peace

One of the most profound benefits of a relationship with God is the inner peace that comes with it. Trusting in God's plan and knowing that He is in control can alleviate anxiety and stress. This peace transcends understanding and remains steadfast even in the face of life's challenges.

Guidance and Purpose

When you build a relationship with God, you gain a sense of purpose and direction. God has a unique plan for each of us, and through prayer and reflection, you can discern His will for your life. This guidance helps you make decisions aligned with your true calling and values.

Community and Support

Being part of a faith community can provide immense support and encouragement. Surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals who share your beliefs can strengthen your faith and provide a network of love and support. Engaging in fellowship activities, attending church, and participating in Bible studies can enrich your spiritual journey.

Forgiveness and Redemption

Understanding God's grace and forgiveness is a transformative experience. No matter your past mistakes or shortcomings, God’s love and mercy are always available. Embracing this forgiveness allows you to let go of guilt and shame, paving the way for healing and growth.

Living a Better Life

A life anchored in faith and a relationship with God is inherently richer and more fulfilling. Here are some practical ways to integrate your faith into everyday life:

Acts of Kindness and Service

Living out the teachings of Jesus through acts of kindness and service to others brings immense joy and fulfillment. Whether it’s volunteering, helping a neighbor, or simply showing compassion, these acts reflect God's love and make the world a better place.

Gratitude and Mindfulness

Cultivating a mindset of gratitude and mindfulness can transform your perspective. Regularly thank God for His blessings and be mindful of His presence in your daily life. This practice fosters contentment and joy.

Healthy Habits

Embrace habits that nurture both your body and soul. Exercise, eat healthily, get enough rest, and spend time in nature. These practices honor the body God has given you and enhance your overall well-being.

Seek Wisdom

Continually seek wisdom through prayer, scripture, and the counsel of trusted spiritual mentors. This wisdom will guide you through life’s complexities and help you grow in your faith.

Jeep Door Hinge Problems

How to Extend the Life of Jeep Door Hinges

My Jeep's corroded Door Hinge

The Jeep Wrangler (JK/JKU's) door hinges use an aluminum bushing sleeve with a steel post hinge. There are a few potential issues that could arise due to the interaction between different metals.

Jeep's corroded aluminum sleeves

Galvanic Corrosion: This is the primary concern when aluminum and steel are in contact, especially in the presence of an electrolyte (like water with salt, commonly encountered in off-roading or coastal areas). Galvanic corrosion occurs because aluminum and steel have different electrode potentials, and when they are connected in the presence of an electrolyte, the aluminum acts as an anode (the part that corrodes) and the steel acts as the cathode (the more protected part). This can lead to the aluminum bushing deteriorating over time.

The corroded aluminum sleeve

Wear and Friction: Aluminum is softer than steel. Under regular operation, like the opening and closing of a door, the aluminum bushing might wear out faster than if it were paired with a hinge of the same material. This can result in increased play or looseness in the hinge over time, potentially affecting the door's alignment and closing mechanism.

When the corrosion happens it makes it much harder to open and close the door. This happened to me and eventually I couldn't use my door.

Replacement Solution

I decided to try out an aftermarket sleeve instead. The old aluminum bushing needed to come out.

Kentrol Door Hinge Liners 👉 Buy Here

Then I replaced the busing sleeve with Kentrol Door Hinge liners. The liners are made from a type of plastic called Black Delrin, or otherwise known as acetal. Acetal is considered an "engineering" plastic due to it's resistance to being distorted/it's strength. This material is low in friction and stiff, making parts made out of it durable and easy to install. Overall, this makes it a heated competitor to metal parts in a variety of scenarios, namely in automotive products.

Preventative Tips

To minimize these issues, it's important to:

  • Regularly inspect the hinge and bushing for signs of corrosion or wear.
  • Consider using a protective coating or grease to reduce direct metal-to-metal contact and to shield the metals from corrosive elements.
  • Ensure proper installation and alignment to minimize undue stress on the bushing.

These steps can help prolong the life of the components and maintain the proper functioning of the door.

For protecting an aluminum bushing in a steel post hinge on a Jeep Wrangler, you'll want to use a grease or coating that provides good corrosion resistance and reduces wear. Here are some options:

Marine Grease: This is a great choice if your Jeep is frequently exposed to wet conditions or salty environments (like coastal areas or roads treated with salt in winter). Marine grease is water-resistant and designed to protect against rust and corrosion in harsh conditions.

Lithium Grease: This is a popular, all-purpose automotive grease that's suitable for most weather conditions. It's good for metal-to-metal contact and helps reduce friction and wear.

Anti-Seize Lubricant: This is specifically designed to prevent seizing, corrosion, and galling where different metals are in contact. It's particularly useful in applications like hinges where disassembly might be required in the future.

Dielectric Grease: While typically used for electrical connections, dielectric grease can also be effective in preventing corrosion in metal joints. It's non-conductive and does not attract dust or dirt.

Graphite Grease: Graphite grease can withstand high temperatures and is also effective in reducing friction and wear between metals.

Steps when applying any of these greases:

  • Clean the hinge and bushing thoroughly to remove any dirt, rust, or old grease.
  • Apply a generous amount of grease to both the bushing and the hinge pin, ensuring full coverage.
  • Reapply grease periodically, especially after exposure to severe conditions or during routine maintenance.

What are Lockers?

 What Lockers Do

Lockers lock the axle so that both wheels spin at the same speed. When a locker is engaged, it prevents the wheels on the same axle from spinning at different rates. This ensures equal distribution of power and torque to both wheels, regardless of traction conditions.

How to Use the Axle Lock Button 👉Watch Here

Axle Lock vs. Traction Control 👉 Watch Here

The Benefits of Equal Wheel Speed

Enhanced Traction: Lockers help improve traction by ensuring power is delivered to all wheels equally. Off-road terrains often feature uneven surfaces, loose dirt, rocks, or slippery conditions, and having lockers engaged can increase your vehicle's ability to navigate through these challenging environments.

Increased Control and Maneuverability: Lockers contribute to increased control and maneuverability while off-roading. By delivering power equally to both wheels on an axle, lockers help maintain stability, especially during challenging maneuvers such as climbing steep inclines, navigating through deep mud, or crossing uneven terrain.

SafetyLockers can enhance safety while off-roading. By maintaining traction and preventing wheel spin, they help reduce the risk of losing control of the vehicle, sliding off a trail, or getting stuck in hazardous situations. This can contribute to a safer and more enjoyable off-road experience.

Increased Confidence: Using lockers can boost your confidence when tackling challenging off-road trails. Knowing that you have the added traction and control provided by lockers can give you the peace of mind to take on more difficult routes, explore new terrain, and push the limits of your off-road capabilities.

Improved Off-Road Performance: Lockers provide better off-road performance by allowing both wheels on an axle to turn at the same speed, even if one wheel loses traction. This feature helps prevent your vehicle from getting stuck in situations where only one wheel spins while the other remains stationary.

Overcoming Obstacles - Versatility: Lockers offer versatility when off-roading. They can be engaged or disengaged based on the terrain and driving conditions, allowing you to switch between open differentials (normal driving) and locked differentials (off-road situations) as needed. This flexibility ensures optimal performance in various off-road scenarios.

Negatives

When lockers are engaged, it can make turning more challenging due to a phenomenon called "axle binding" or "axle wind-up."

Differential Function: In a standard open differential, the wheels on an axle can rotate at different speeds during a turn. This differentiation allows the outside wheel to cover more distance than the inside wheel, accommodating the varying arc lengths in a turn. This design provides smoother turning and reduces stress on the drivetrain components.

Locked Axle: When lockers are engaged, the differential is effectively locked, causing both wheels on the same axle to rotate at the same speed. This configuration maximizes traction but eliminates the differentiation in wheel speed during turns.

Tire Scrubbing and Axle Binding: Since the outside wheel needs to cover a larger distance than the inside wheel during a turn, the wheels must slip slightly on the surface to accommodate this difference. With lockers engaged, the wheels cannot slip independently, leading to tire scrubbing or the tires dragging across the terrain. This can result in increased resistance and difficulty in turning.

Increased Stress on Drivetrain: Axle binding puts additional stress on the drivetrain components, including the differential, axle shafts, and other related parts. This stress can cause strain, increased wear and tear, and potential damage to these components over time.

 Important Notes

Lockers can vary in types and configurations, such as selectable lockers or automatic lockers, and may require professional installation or modification of your vehicle. It's recommended to consult with experts or experienced off-roaders to determine the best locker setup for your specific needs and vehicle.

Getting to know your rig and what it can do is important. The degree of difficulty in turning with lockers engaged can vary depending on factors such as the type of locker, terrain conditions, vehicle setup, and driver skill. Proper technique, including throttle modulation and adjusting steering inputs, can help navigate turns more effectively with lockers engaged.

Jeep's Plastic Side Steps

Take Them Off for Off-Roading

The Jeep Wrangler's plastic side steps, usually on the Sahara model, serve a practical purpose in daily use. They offer a step for easier entry and exit. However, when it comes to off-roading, they can be more of a hindrance than a help. The Jeep owners manual throws a curveball for off-roading enthusiasts: it advises removing these side steps before hitting the trails. Despite their utility in everyday situations, they become vulnerable in the unpredictable and often harsh environments encountered off-road.

Jeep's manual is clear on this point: before you venture off the beaten path, it's wise to remove these steps. The reason is twofold. First, the plastic material, while durable under normal conditions, is not designed to withstand the impacts and abrasions from rocks, branches, and other off-road obstacles. Damage to the steps is not just a cosmetic issue; it can also lead to costly repairs and replacements.

Second, and perhaps more crucially, the side steps reduce the Wrangler's ground clearance and breakover angle. This reduction can make the difference between smoothly navigating over obstacles and getting caught or damaged midway. For serious off-roaders, preserving every inch of clearance is paramount to maintaining the Wrangler's legendary capability.

Lesson Learned

I learned this lesson the hard way. It could have been a very expensive lesson but I got lucky. After being guided through some larger rock, I headed over with the other Jeeps to wait for the rest to finish. I relaxed a little which is a big mistake. Never ever let your guard down. I should have been scanning the trail continually. Well, I went over a rock and there was a large noise that even concerned the other drivers. I drove my step rail, yes those plastic stock step rails, right over a large rock. The rock pushed the drivers side rail up slightly into the fender and popped out the fender.

Luckily, Kyle, my guide,  knew exactly what to do. He got up on the step rail and jumped on it to push it back into place. Then with his hands he popped the fender back into place.

Making the Choice: To Remove or Not to Remove?

The decision to remove the plastic side steps before off-roading boils down to the type of adventure you're embarking on. If your journey involves light trails with minimal obstacles, the steps might not pose a significant risk. However, for more challenging terrains, taking Jeep's advice could save you from a headache down the line.

Removing the steps is a simple, straightforward process, one you can do with basic tools. The added peace of mind and confidence in your vehicle's capability are well worth this prep step. Moreover, it opens up the opportunity to explore alternative solutions, such as aftermarket metal rock sliders, which offer superior protection and durability for off-road enthusiasts.

Family Party Planning Tips

Becoming the Best Party Host

As I grown older I find myself becoming more nostalgic. I begin to take strolls down memory lane reminiscing of all those great family get-togethers. I cherish the moments and crave them more and more. Creating family traditions and gatherings is never too late even as your children get older.

Family gatherings are an essential part of our lives, as they provide an opportunity to bond with our loved ones, create lasting memories, and strengthen family ties. Hosting a family party can be a fun and rewarding experience, but it can also be stressful if not planned properly.

The Importance of Food and Drinks

Food and drinks are the very essence of any gathering, as they create a sense of togetherness and shared experience. They not only nourish the body but also feed the soul, as people bond over delicious meals and refreshing beverages. A well-planned menu can make a gathering memorable, as it caters to diverse palates and preferences. It's not just about the taste, but also the presentation, which adds to the overall ambiance of the event. The right beverage, like this one, a Long Island Iced Tea can make a great happy hour drink or beverages paired with food can elevate the dining experience can create a harmonious meal.. Food and drinks are the glue that holds a gathering together, fostering stronger bonds and creating lasting memories.

Plan Ahead

The best parties begin with a plan. Consider what you are hoping to achieve with your family party and what you would like your guests to experience at the party. Details like your invite list, your date, the time, the theme, your location, whether or not you have any dietary requirements for your guests, age ranges for the guests, and anything else that you know is important to you for your magical family party. Get a detailed checklist of the things you would like to get organized—from invites to clean up—and a timeline of the tasks that you will need to do to get there. Even asking for opinions on the dish you want to make can help. You might find out that guests want simple cleaning eating dishes. Hence, having opinions can help you understand if it is the right decision.

Get Personal

To be a be a good party host do things differently by making the party feel personal. Customize the decorations and table settings creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Pay attention to lighting, music, and the wow factor, and consider fresh flowers, candles, and textiles to give warmth and elegance to our space. Present a friendly face when your guests arrive, offer a nice ice-breaker refreshment when your guests arrive, and encourage mingling so guests can feel more comfortable and connected.

Plan Fun Activities

My most favorite family gatherings that created long lasting memories for everyone usually consisted of some sort of activity. Hanging around a bonfire sharing our favorite stories of family gathering in the past is one everyone could partake in. My family loves a good board game from Clue to Taboo to Apples to Apples. We also love a good trivia game.

Capture the Memories

Don’t forget to get lots of photos and videos so you can cherish the memories. Years down the road you can bring out the old pictures and videos at another family gathering. Another great idea is to create photo books as gifts for your family members.
