Front Bumper Install

Barricade Trailforce HD Front Bumper

Jeep Momma taking off factory front bumper

If you would have told me ten years ago or even two years ago that I would be sitting out on my driveway underneath a Jeep installing a new bumper I would have laughed at you. Well, that's exactly what I did on Saturday during my Birthday Weekend Celebration.

After about a month of earning money for my Jeep Parts Fund, I finally had enough to purchase my first Jeep Part -- the start of my Jeep modification.

Check out my Jeep Momma Modifications page for my other modifications I made on my Jeep.

The UPS Truck at the end of the driveway.
The UPS man show up

When the big brown truck arrived with my 79 pound bumper I was ready to get to work however, mom duties needed to be taken came first. Dinner needed to be made, Pokemon cards needed to be bought and of course the neighbors Game Truck Party needed to be attended. A mom's job is never done.

My son Michael and I unwrapping the new front bumper.

The next morning my kids and I began unpacking the bumper and gathering up the needed tools -- The ratchet set and some screwdrivers.

The Jeep's plastic air dam.

The first thing we did was remove the plastic air dam that attached to the factory front bumper.

Having an extra strong set of hands to help with the factory bolts.
Getting help loosing bolts

The toughest part of the job was loosening those bolts on the factory mounted front plastic bumper.

Once the stock bumper was off and set aside it was time to line up my new - heavy duty steel - - black powder coated bumper.

The front of the Jeep without the front bumper.
The front wiring harness for the fog lights

It seemed all the reviews I read were correct about the stock fog lights not lining up with the new bumper. But all we needed to do was take the wires out of the loom and pull out the excess wires. There didn't seem to be any excess. I was bound and determined to find that excess wire.

Jeep Momma showing the factory wiring harness.
the wiring harness

I figured it out. There really isn't any extra wiring. All I needed to do was separate the passenger side fog light from the main wiring and bring it under and around the frame -- a perfect fit.

Jeep Momma putting the factory fog lights back in the front bumper.
Installing the factory fog lights in the new bumper

Next we mounted in the fog light covers -- definitely a good idea to do this before you bolt on the bumper. However I'm not sure how most men get this done. It's a real tight fit getting those screws in and the teeny tiny nuts. Luckily my thin, nimble fingers were able to do the trick.

Now time for the part I was waiting all those long hours for -- bolting on the big bad bumper. It was a pretty simple and easy install.

First time Off Road!

A Day that Changed the Path of My Life

This was the day my Jeep Life morphed from daily driver to weekend warrior. I would soon come to find my new passion would become off-roading. Little did I know that day how it would completely change my life. My Jeep and off-roading would take me on so many adventures to amazing places.

Check out My First Time Off-road video on YouTube.

My First Time on the Trails

I got up early to embark on a three-hour drive to Pennsylvania. My destination was Rausch Creek Off-road Park. I had arranged a one-on-one off-road driving instruction session.

I was eager to learn more about my Jeep and its features, and finally get out on the trails to learn how to drive off-road. It was something I had never experienced and had no idea what to expect.

Nervous Excitement

My nerves on edge and my tummy filled with anxious butterflies, I walked up to the window to check in. My instructor, Kyle, was there to greet me. He set my nerves at ease with his easy going welcoming personality. We wasted no time and began the training. I was thrilled when I finally engaged 4-wheel low and drove a few circles in a dirt lot to get a feel for my Jeep's capabilities.

Off-Roading 101 with Kyle

Kyle is a well-educated and seasoned professional trainer. He is knowledgeable about the capabilities of my Jeep. He explained them in terms I understood. Plus, it helped that I was an experienced driver in the snow and ice.

An Amazing Day!

Facing My Fears

As I tackled the first incline, I was nervous about tipping over. However, after seeing a picture of the incline, I realized it wasn't as bad as it felt. Something I remind myself still to this day.  I continued to learn, navigating washouts, hills, mud, and rocks without damaging my Jeep.

Traversing the Trails

Kyle took me and my Jeep through wash outs, up and down hills, through the mud and over rocks. I didn't even damage my Jeep at all. I did hear some clanks and bangs -- only four -- so I think I did pretty good.

Mastering the Hill Descent Control

One of the coolest things I learned was about the Hill Descent Control button. I was amazed at what my Jeep could do without my help, and it gave Knight Rider's Kit a run for its money.

First Time Water Forging

Kyle even took me through the center of a pond, which was a scary feeling, but I trusted my Jeep. I was reminded that my Jeep is not just a toy, but also my mommy vehicle for daily tasks.

Water forging is one of the Jeep 4x4 Trail Rated Badge tests.

Manual Automatic Transmission Magic

Another feature I learned to use was the manual automatic transmission, also called autostick. This is second nature to me since I grew up driving a manual transmission with a clutch.

This post will show you What is Autostick and How to Use Autostick

At the time, I wasn't ready for more difficult rockier trails. It was a fantastic day and I was eager to take another class so I could venture out on my own.   I didn't know where it would lead me at the time but it was all an amazing journey.

Check out all my other Adventures and see the amazing journey I have been on since this first day.

Bucket List: Warrior Dash Completed

Reflections of an Amazing Day!

Jeep Momma showing she's ready for the race

Saturday morning greeted me with a blend of nerves and determination. The prospect of racing solo, as a 40-something-year-old woman, stirred apprehension within me. Doubts clouded my mind about handling the obstacles that lay ahead. Yet, I repeated to myself: quitting was not an option. Running and completing this race solo became a personal mission, a testament to my capabilities.

Check out my blog page on How to Crafting Your Own Bucket List

Team of One: Rediscovering Independence

Unlike most participants, who raced alongside teammates or partners, I stood as the entirety of "Team: Me, Myself, and I." The solitary pursuit symbolized a journey toward rediscovering my inner strength and independence. Conquering the race solo represented more than a physical feat; it was a declaration of self-reliance regained amid life's twists and turns.

A Free Beer after finishing the race awaited me.

Testing Limits: A Trail of Endurance

The race course emerged as a testing ground for endurance and resilience. The initial mile led me into the dense woods, navigating treacherous hills that seemed to ascend endlessly. While others succumbed to fatigue and walked, I persevered, transitioning from a run to a determined jog. Each step propelled me forward, even as the trail morphed into a quagmire of mud and muck.

Finding Joy in Adversity

Amid the collective grumbles echoing along the trail, I found solace in the adventure unfolding before me. Traversing the muddy terrain, I reflected on the resilience of soldiers who braved far greater challenges. If they could endure, then surely I could conquer this muddy mile with ease.

Confronting Fears: Triumph Over Heights

The ultimate trial awaited in the final mile, replete with obstacles that tested my resolve, particularly my fear of heights. With each climbing wall conquered and each obstacle surmounted, I confronted my apprehensions head-on. The pinnacle of the challenge lay in a narrow beam suspended 25 feet above a ravine, with only two ropes for support. Drawing a deep breath, I pressed forward, refusing to yield to fear.

Triumph Amidst Mud and Milestones

As I crawled through the final stretch of mud, a surge of exhilaration swept over me. The journey neared its conclusion, leaving me exhilarated yet yearning for more. The race had become a testament to my resilience, a reminder of the depths of endurance within me. With newfound confidence, I eagerly embraced the prospect of future challenges, signing up for the next race. I would end up running several 5k's and eventually checked My First 10K off my list.

7 Metabolism Boosting Tips

As You Grow Older

Metabolism is the process your body uses to turn food into energy. A faster metabolism means your body burns more calories, which makes it easier to maintain or lose weight. A slower metabolism makes it harder.

As women, our metabolism naturally changes with age. That doesn’t mean you’re stuck—it just means you need to adjust how you eat, move, and take care of yourself. In this post, I’ll share both the science behind metabolism shifts and practical lifestyle tips I’ve tried to keep my energy strong over the years.

(Educational info only; not medical advice. Talk to a healthcare professional for personal guidance.)

How Women’s Metabolism Changes with Age

  • 20s: Muscle and bone mass are at their peak.

  • 30s: Mitochondria (your cells’ energy producers) become less efficient.

  • 40s: Estrogen production declines, slowing metabolism further.

  • 50s and beyond: Less activity + lower hormone levels reduce lean muscle mass and bone density.

Pro Tip: You can’t stop the aging process, but you can adapt with exercise, nutrition, and habits that support your metabolism. Self-care is key when growing older.

Everyday Habits That Boost Metabolism

Here are some of the strategies I’ve found helpful in my own health journey:

1. Eat a Balanced Breakfast

Skipping breakfast can slow metabolism. Choose protein + fiber to start your day.

2. Caffeine in Moderation

Coffee or green tea can provide a mild metabolism boost thanks to caffeine.

3. Stay Hydrated (Cold Water Helps)

Drink at least 8 glasses of water daily. Cold water may give a slight calorie-burning effect.

4. Prioritize Protein

Protein helps maintain lean muscle and increases the thermic effect of food (burning more calories during digestion).

5. Eat Dark Leafy Greens

Spinach, kale, and broccoli provide iron and nutrients that support energy metabolism.

6. Add Chili Peppers

Capsaicin (found in chili peppers) can give a short-term metabolism boost.

7. Get Quality Sleep

Poor sleep disrupts hormones like leptin and ghrelin, which regulate hunger and metabolism.

 More Metabolism-Boosting Tips

  • Calcium-Rich Snacks
Yogurt or milk in the afternoon may support fat metabolism.

  • Eat Organic When Possible
Chemicals in pesticides may disrupt thyroid function and energy metabolism. If you can’t go fully organic, check the Dirty Dozen & Clean Fifteen lists for where it matters most.

  • Strength Train Slowly

  • When lowering weights, count to three. Slower resistance training engages muscles longer, boosting metabolism.

  • Mix Up Cardio Intensity
Add intervals of high-intensity sprints to walking, biking, or running. Intervals increase calorie burn even after you stop.

FAQ: Metabolism and Aging

Q: Why does metabolism slow as we age?
A: Primarily due to loss of muscle mass and decreased activity, with hormones playing a role.

Q: Can food really boost metabolism?
A: Certain foods (protein, chili peppers, green tea) have a small effect, but the biggest impact comes from overall healthy eating + exercise.

Q: Is strength training more effective than cardio for metabolism?
A: Both help, but strength training builds muscle, which burns more calories at rest. That makes it especially important as we age.

Q: How much sleep do I need for healthy metabolism?
A: Aim for 7–9 hours per night. Consistent, quality sleep helps regulate hormones that affect weight and energy.

I’ve learned through my health challenges (including my fatty liver diagnosis) that metabolism isn’t just about “burning calories.” It’s about creating habits—nutrition, exercise, hydration, and rest—that support your body long-term.

You can’t stop aging, but you can outsmart it by choosing daily habits that fuel your energy and keep you strong.

Simple Skin Care Naturally

It’s Not Too Late to Start Taking Care of Your Skin

Getting older stinks! Our bodies just aren’t the same as when we were younger. If I only knew then what I know now, I would’ve taken better care of my skin back in my 20s and 30s.

The truth is: it’s never too late to start. With the right habits—hydration, clean eating, natural skin care, and sun protection—you can protect your skin and keep it healthier as you age.

My Skin Cancer Wake-Up Call (Update 2025)

In the summer of 2025, I had basal cell carcinoma cut out of my forehead. It was a scary but important reminder that skin care isn’t just about beauty—it’s about health.

Now, I have to be very mindful of my skin, especially on my face. Sun protection and avoiding harsh chemicals aren’t optional anymore—they’re essential. If sharing my story helps even one person start protecting their skin earlier, it’s worth it.

(For medical advice about skin cancer or treatment, always consult a dermatologist. This is just my personal journey.)

The Foundation of Healthy Skin

Your skin is your body’s largest organ. What you eat, drink, and put on your skin matters just as much as what you put in your body. Here are the habits that have made the biggest difference for me:

  • Healthier, Clean Eating – Focus on whole foods, fewer processed ingredients.

  • Hydrate – Aim for at least 8 glasses of water a day.

  • Limit Chemicals – Choose natural skincare and personal products.

  • Exercise – Movement improves circulation, which nourishes skin cells.

Pro Tip: I noticed a huge change when I began eating more raw fruits and veggies and cutting back on processed foods. My skin looked brighter, and I felt better overall.

 Reading Labels Matters

close up label of a skin care product
Read the labels

If a product’s ingredient list looks like a chemistry experiment, think twice. I learned this lesson when my son had recurring canker sores. His dentist suggested switching to a toothpaste without sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), a common foaming agent. Once we switched, his sores disappeared.

That was my wake-up call to simplify the products I used for myself, too. Now I stick to basic, natural ingredients whenever possible.

Natural Skin Care Tips

  • Exfoliate (but don’t overdo it)

  • Dry body brushing to boost circulation

  • Hydrate your skin with natural oils and moisturizers

  • DIY masks for tightening & refreshing

  • Drink plenty of water

  • Eat raw foods for antioxidants

  • Strength training & calisthenics for circulation

  • Massage to reduce tension and improve flow

  • Avoid harsh soaps

  • Daily sun protection (SPF 30+)

  • Add Vitamin C & Retinol gradually

Keep It Simple: My Routine

The beauty industry makes skincare seem complicated. Toners, tonics, serums, sprays—it’s overwhelming. Here’s how I keep it simple and natural.

Morning

  • Cleanse: Just splash with warm water if you cleansed properly the night before.

  • Moisturize: Apply a natural moisturizer to keep skin hydrated.

  • Sun Protection: The most important step! Broad-spectrum SPF 30+ every day.

Evening

  • Cleanse: Use a gentle cleanser in circular motions. Rinse thoroughly—soap residue clogs pores.

  • Exfoliate: 2–3 times per week to remove dead skin cells.

  • Moisturize: Reapply before bed to lock in hydration.

  • Mask: Use a natural mask once or twice a week for tightening.

FAQ: Natural Skin Care

Q: Do natural products really work?
A: Yes, many natural ingredients (like aloe, coconut oil, and green tea) provide hydration and antioxidants without harsh chemicals.

Q: How can I prevent wrinkles naturally?
A: Hydration, sunscreen, a balanced diet, and consistent sleep make the biggest difference. Expensive creams won’t undo neglect.

Q: What’s the #1 skin care mistake people make?
A: Skipping sunscreen. Sun damage is the leading cause of premature aging and skin cancer.

Q: Do I need all those extra products—toners, sprays, serums?
A: Not necessarily. A simple routine—cleanse, moisturize, protect—covers most people’s needs. Extras are optional.

If I could go back, I’d start protecting my skin decades earlier. But it’s never too late to begin. By eating clean, staying hydrated, exercising, and protecting your skin from the sun, you can keep it healthier for years to come.

My skin cancer diagnosis reminded me that natural, simple care is powerful—and it’s about more than looking good. It’s about living well.
